The central Palca Catalunya links the old town with the Eixample since the 19th century when the medieval city walls were demolished. It marks the beginning of the famous Rambla which slopes gently down to the sea. La Rambla showcases a unique and colourful universe with remarkable street artists, flower and pet stalls. The Bouqueria market and the Teatre del Liceu are both along this lively boulevard, as well as endless unexpected attractions such as a museum dedicated to erotica. Near Placa Catalunya is the Palau de la Musica Catalana, a breathtaking jewel of Modernisme that must also be seen. The Tourist Information Office and the Barcelona Original gift shop are located under the square. The Barcelona Tourist Bus departs from Placa Catalunya. There are three lines, the red, the blue and the green routes covering all touristic areas of the city.
